Quote Response 2

"Good literature substitutes for experiences which we have not ourselves lived through" -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I think the what the speaker is trying to say is that good literature lets us read and imagine about stuff that we haven't done yet. When you read a book about adventure, we are able to imagine what it is like. This is how we substitute experiences that we haven't done ourselves.

This quote goes with my book because Dorothy is stuck in grey Kansas where her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry never laugh or have fun. She likes to be creative and imagine a world that's not so grey and boring. When she gets stuck in the land of Oz she is happy to be there because its bright and happy and full of laughter. All though she meets friends and is in a beautiful land she still wants to go home. By being in the land of Oz she now knows that there if a live of fun and laughter.

  3. Your answer is kind of like mine too. I really want to read the Wizard of Oz sometime. I've only seen the movie but now I understand why it's in black and white in the beginning. Though, I still don't know whether she actually goes to Oz or if she's just crazy.

    P.S. How was wildwood? :)
